Sean Landers

Sean Landers was born in 1962 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He received his BFA in sculpture from the Philadelphia College of Art in 1984 and an MFA in sculpture from Yale School of Art in 1986. Predominantly known for his self-exposing pieces, Landers cultivated a body of work primarily focusing around his own writing on canvas. This series was titled Art, Life and God, circumventing his alter-ego “Chris Hamson,” a conflation of Landers and his other artist friends. After 1992, Landers began to shift further inward, shedding the presence of his alter ego and turning the direction of his writing, and cartoon-like images more towards his own life and experience. His pieces offer a direct depository into the artists’ mind often in a stream of consciousness type format.
